D&D Video Gems: BOOM! John Madden: Dungeon Master

Saturday, August 31st, 2013

Favicon-jpgIf you’ve followed Leonine Roar a while, you might know that I’m also a big NFL football fan.  I mean, I did these two hybrid D&D-meets-football polls for fun, so I must love both!

But no one collides NFL football and Dungeons & Dragons into one glorious, awesome spectacle like Blame Society Films.  Yes, the over-the-top characterization of the gamers is tired (just ask Shouting into the Void), but forget that for a moment and just sit back and enjoy Madden crashing your D&D game.

BOOM!  Classic.  Enjoy!

More D&D Video Gems?  Yes, please.

What’s your favorite line?  I laughed out loud a couple of times, good stuff!

Okay – back to GMU.

Happy Summer!

Dungeon Bastarding for the Holidays

Looking for some D&D-flavored holiday laughs?  Then once more, you need the Dungeon Bastard!

Found this 2011 holiday gem from Bill Cavalier, also known as The Adventure Coach.  “William” strikes gold again – this time for the holidays!

Santa: Level 20, 30, or 40?

And for something completely different: if you’re curious what Santa’s stat block might look like, check out this great Paizo/Pathfinder thread.  Depending on which RPG you actually play, your level suggestion may vary!

Sorcerer or wizard?  What do you think?  Time Stop and Wish are locks for Santa, I agree!

Happy Holidays from Leonine Roar!

Your Merry GM and Player,

Tony

D&D Video Gems: Top 10 Monsters

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

Leonine Roar loves all kinds of cool D&D videos from all the brilliant players, DMs and artists out there!  Here’s a cool video loaded with artwork plus some entertaining, savvy DM commentary on all the wicked ways the best 10 D&D monsters of all time (or at least fairly recent time!) can and will terrorize your playgroup!

That’s right, there’s more than a few fun stories and adventure hook inspirations woven into the narrative!

So fire up the video, sit back and enjoy the list.  And be sure to take a moment to tell Jared Hickey he done good with a quick monster-approved upvote.

D&D Video Gems: “Playing D&D” by SJ Tucker

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Leonine Roar loves its gamers because we’re all artists too!  Movies, artwork, novels, theater, music and more – can’t get enough!

Speaking of musicians and singers – I doubt you’ve heard this beautiful a voice singing about D&D… ever!

Bonus points to SJ Tucker and her crew for for all sorts of Easter eggs in the video and song.  How many did you notice?

My favorite?

The subtle and brilliant nod to Freaks and Geeks!  Bursting with talented actors that are huge names today, this show was just a little ahead of its time.  Even had its own episode with D&D in it.  Did you watch the show or that episode?

Now I heard getting your eyes on the D&D Freaks and Geeks episode wasn’t an easy feat, but don’t worry – after all, we do have the new D&D classic from Community to call our own!

True Holiday Treasures

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

I wasn’t sure what to write today except that I knew it had to include a few things that D&D and gaming have always brought us: joy, laughter, thanks and appreciation.  The stories and characters, our fellow players and our DMs – we create and share a unique and inspiring hobby together, and in that I know I am not alone in feeling so fortunate and thankful.

Passion and Poetry

While I love to write, and have always loved spelling, language and etymology, prose was always my strength.  Poetry never came as easily to me, however.  It was so different from prose.  Sometimes its bizarre look and rhythm was crazy beautiful, and sometimes it was simply nothing more than crazy!

Yet with a new and exciting year upon us, here is a poetic gem I found to remind us about what really matters when we play – in D&D, in any game we play and in life:

Epic Play? You Actually Got That Far?

Friday, August 26th, 2011

alt textEpic play may seem out of reach for the typical D&D campaign that starts out at level 1.  So why don’t we see more D&D 4e epic play and support?  Here’s what I told Dungeon’s Master in their excellent The Future of Dungeons & Dragons – Part 2 article:

Wizards is just now starting to talk about releasing and supporting more epic content.

I think it’s a simple pacing and practicality thing – combats, and by extension, sessions and leveling take so long in 4e, that it takes several months if not *years* for a typical campaign to hit and conclude in epic play.

The default, out-of-box game should not be this slow. Especially not these days with all the entertainment choices and technology we have.

So why don’t we see more epic play and support?  Because we never get there!

D&D Music Video Gems: Tonight by Allie Goertz

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

There are some brilliant artists out there blending two of their passions together: music and D&D.  Now since I love both and undoubtedly enriched your gaming lives with the Roll a d6 video, I went out once more into the Internet multiverse, scouring its ever-expanding corners for more inspired gems.

So if the Roll a d6 genre wasn’t your thing (though the lyrics were fantastic, right?), relax and give a listen to Allie Goertz’s “Tonight.”

“Tonight” is a funny and soothing song about what every D&D gamer like Allie looks forward to after a long day or week: enjoying some D&D with your friends.

Enjoy!
